MSGF 10th Anniversary Celebration in Hong Kong

Founded in 2007, the MS in Global Finance program celebrated its 10th Anniversary on May 6, 2017 in Hong Kong.

MSGF 10th Anniversary Conference - The Future of Finance

Professor Kar Yan Tam, Dean, HKUST Business School, and Professor Eitan Zemel, Vice Dean of Global and Executive Programs, NYU Stern Business School, commemorated the 10th Anniversary Celebration and gave welcome remarks.


The Anniversary Conference carried the theme on "The Future of Finance" where various speakers shared insights on different trends and development of the financial markets.


Professor Christoper Malloy, Sylvan C. Coleman Chaired Professor of Financial Management at Harvard Business School and Visiting Professor at HKUST, spoke on the applications of behavioral finance and social network analysis.


On the topic of FinTech, Professor David Yermack, Albert Fingerhut Professor of Finance and Business Transformation, Chair of the Finance Department, NYU Stern, shared how business education has transformed to prepare students for disruptive innovation. Two other panelists, Ms Benedicte Nolens, Senior Director, Head of Risk and Strategy, Securities and Futures Commissions, and Mr Guy Mills, Chief Executive Officer, Manulife Hong Kong, showcased how regulatory bodies and the insurance sector embraced FinTech and evolved their products and services to stay ahead of the curve.


Last but not least, Professor Menachem Brenner, MSGF Academic Director and Research Professor of Finance, NYU Stern, moderated the session on The Financial Markets in a De-globalized World with three other panelists - Mr Alan Luk (MSGF Class of 2008), Head of Private Banking and Trust Services, Hang Seng Bank, Mr Patryck Pimpao (MSGF Class of 2016), Head of Asia Pacific, Patria Investments, and Mr Steve Chiu, Senior Vice President, Head of Hong Kong Retail, Global Wealth Management, PIMCO Asia Limited.

MSGF 10th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

Over 120 MSGF alumni, students, faculty and guests gathered in Asia Society in Hong Kong to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the MSGF program.


The dinner started with a welcome remark by Professor Tony Chan, President, HKUST, followed by Dean Kar Yan Tam of HKUST and Vice Dean Eitan Zemel of NYU Stern. To recap the sweats, tears and laughters while studying the MSGF program, Ms Charmaine Cheuk (MSGF Class of 2008) and Mr Joseph Cheung (MSGF Class of 2015) went on stage to share their fond memories and take-away from the program.


The celebration dinner would not be complete without fun games on global currency and wine quiz. Alumni and students teamed up to tackle the challenges by exchanging tips on wine and currency across the global. The dinner ended in chatters and laughters with alumni, students, and faculty reconnected once again and celebrated the successful milestone of this joint program.
