The HKUST-NYU Stern Master of Science in Global Finance (MSGF) program is an executive program, jointly organized by two globally-renowned educational institutions – Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and New York University (NYU) Stern School of Business.
Martina Fuchs, an esteemed graduate of the MSGF Class of 2014, is a Swiss national and an international TV anchor, business journalist, event moderator, expert on China and the Middle East, and speaks nine languages. She currently works as a European Business Correspondent for China’s state news agency Xinhua, Co-Founder of the Frequency School with U.S. Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum music producer Maejor, Consultant for the world-renowned IMD business school, and Advisor for the Lang Lang International Music Foundation.
Based in London and Zurich, Martina also serves as international media ambassador and board member for the Montreux Jazz Festival China and is the brand ambassador for Switzerland's premium chocolate retailer Läderach. Apart from being a global citizen and world traveler, she is also a music DJ and playing old school hip hop, soul and R&B, as well as Afrobeat and world music.
Ten years after graduating from the MSGF program, Martina reflects on her learning experience and its influence on her career trajectory.
Turning the mic: Martina's Quest for Financial Insight
Before joining the program, Martina worked as a CGTN senior business reporter in Beijing. She also held a master's in international Economic History from the University in Geneva, Switzerland, and a Postgraduate Diploma in TV Journalism from the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

“As a business journalist, I ask CEOs, policymakers and business leaders many questions, but I realized that if you turned the mic around and asked me about the global financial markets, I would not always know how to answer. I wanted to improve my own knowledge of finance, business and the global economy and I wanted to do so in an international environment that would give me a multicultural perspective,” says Martina.
She researched numerous master's programs, before deciding that the MSGF offered everything she required.
“I wanted, firstly, to improve my own knowledge of the business and economic matters through embarking on a recognized and comprehensive finance program, and secondly to travel and expand my horizons with a cosmopolitan course.”
Martina's background is in journalism, not finance, which left her concerned about her technical skills and business knowledge before starting the MSGF program. Aware that many of her classmates had prior experience in finance and degrees in business, she felt she might be at a disadvantage. However, through extensive reading and collaboration with her classmates, she quickly caught up with the coursework.
“The technical aspects were a challenge for me, the first class was like jumping into cold water,” she laughs. “Luckily, my classmates helped me. There was great camaraderie between fellow students from day one, and we have stayed in touch ever since.”
“My classmates came from various industries and backgrounds and we each bought our own strengths to the classroom. They had hard skills in finance and business, whereas I had soft skills such as communication, languages and a non-a business way of looking at things.”
“We complimented each other because we had such contrasting skill sets and were each able to contribute different perspectives to discussions. In today’s global world, this way of thinking is crucial.”
Finance Expertise: A Multiplier for Unlocking New Opportunities
Throughout her time in the MSGF program, Martina carefully considered her future career options, including a potential shift to finance. Ultimately, she chose to pursue her natural talent in communications.

“I think I am suited to communications but the knowledge I gained on the master's has given me the option to branch into new areas. The course itself also gives you new networking opportunities through your classmates and the industry insiders who are involved. The diversity gives you access to three important things – knowledge, connections and career capital.”
“The MSGF is a trigger for a world of opportunities to make a positive impact in different industries, and to build your network, your credibility and your career for your professional and personal future.” She highly recommends the MSGF program to professionals from different fields.
“This program bridges countries and global markets, and the global approach opens doors to new locations and new experiences.”
The MSGF program provides participants with a strong foundation in finance, acting as a multiplier for their existing skills and expertise, and unlocking new opportunities. It is also an empowering experience that fosters clarity, friendship, and lasting memories.
EQUALITY: A New Journey of Passion and Purpose
In addition to her numerous business and consulting roles, Martina has embarked on a new global musical journey and mission:
Last year, she co-founded the Frequency School together with US Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum music producer Maejor, and co-founders Kingsley Maduka, Brandon Lee and Aaron Dawson to bring sound healing frequencies and their benefits for mental health and overall wellbeing around the world.
At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos in Switzerland in January, they launched the “195”, the first song in history featuring women from all of the world’s 195 countries using sound healing frequencies and the 528 Hz ‘Love Frequency’ in a bid to ignite a global movement and raise awareness about gender equality.
Using the sounds of birds and the heartbeat as instrumental elements, “195” aims to raise the world’s frequency, elevate humanity, and trigger a positive impact by uniting and empowering women worldwide.
The song is currently being submitted for the Guinness World Records for the title:“ Most nationalities to contribute vocals to a musical recording (single song)”.
